Puerto Galera. There are not many places left in the world where you can have a whole beach to yourself. Kayaking, hiking, swimming and snorkeling add to the list of non-diving activities. Some of the best views are from Ponderosa, a nine-hole golf course 500 meters up a near-by mountain. And how about a reptile zoo, with the biggest snake collection in Asia?

It is our experience that day 5 is a very important consolidation period where experiences are shared and relationships formed cemented in an informal environment, we recommend that one or two days are allowed for this process.
The core Mission Possible program is run over 2/3 days, and is based on multiple levels of engagement, that use a variety of skill sets that challenge in the following ways:
Planning and Implementing a project.
Carrying out team activities in different challenging environments.
Showing leadership and interpersonal skills.
Making decisions and communicating actions.
Achieving objectives in an exciting, but safe, jungle and coastal environment.
The objective for the teams will be to generate and implement a plan, to salvage a sunken object that contains information, that has to be deciphered, which describes objectives that have to be achieved in a safe but challenging jungle environment. More information can be found here.
Other creative team building options are available including water based programs and live gaming.
Mission Possible is run as a program in which individuals with multiple, different skill levels and abilities, can bond together as a team, leverage their skills in ways that enable them all to:
Learn how teams work
Add value to the team
Contribute to the team’s success
Have fun doing it.
The Core program Process
Objective: To build a team environment by helping them learn how they, as a team:
Accept, interpret and process information.
Generate a plan.
Implement the plan to achieve their objectives as described in the information made available.
Teams will prepare for and follow the plan they submitted and was accepted by the Program facilitator.
Each stage will be followed by an After Action Review.
The team can use their resources as best they see fit, but there must be a stage of leadership by all members and consensus decision making, majority voting will not be an acceptable practice. (Similar to norming)
Deviations from the plan that are made necessary by experience and events will be logged and reported, but will be allowed. (Similar to performing)
At the end of the exercise there will be a final After Action Review and a team de-briefing by the Program Facilitator which will review their performance and how they found the experience.
Planning: All programs commence with a team briefing carried out by the Program Facilitator to define their objectives and the resources available to them, and to establish the areas where the team members will need some training.
This will, if required, be followed by some introductory team building programs and training the team in the areas where they do not have the necessary skills to effectively achieve their objective. This will include SCUBA and group structure for the jungle part of the program.
Teams then prepare a detailed plan (Process similar to forming and storming) including:
Goals of the team (As understood by them)
Procedures for each stage of the exercise
Timing for each stage of the exercise
Roles of Team Members, each stage having a different leader
The plan will have to be accepted and signed off by the Program Facilitator before authorization is given to go ahead.
Salvage operation or Raft Building:
The team designs and builds the necessary equipment, deploys the boat and sends down divers to recover an object from the sea bottom, at a depth of ~10 meters, using the tools made available to them.
Or: The team builds a raft using the equipment supplied and use it to retrieve the object specified.
When the object is retrieved the team will receive the messages to be de-coded.
Deciphering Code: this exercise will be in two stages:
Use the clue and key to decipher the first part of the message.
Use the information from this message, use the resources listed, decipher the second part of the message outlining the objectives for the Jungle task, and furnishing the necessary information to achieve them.
Jungle Task: – Awareness and physical activity in a safe challenging jungle environment whilst overcoming obstacles.
Objective: To help the team learn the importance of following instructions, implementing the plan, working as a team and how they adapt to changes.
Purpose: Create a plan of action that covers the whole program.
Following the team briefing, the team will create:
Before Action Review covering all team roles and objectives.
The plan has to be approved by the briefing staff before they can start.
The plan will include everyone and describe their roles in each of the stages.
The team will be encouraged to make decisions by consensus
Purpose: To design and build the specified equipment, followed by successfully carrying out the task.
Salvage: For teams with divers.
The team has to design and build the necessary equipment, deploy the boat and send down 2 divers to recover the object using only the tools available. An ideal solution is shown below.
Tools:
A boat
A Tarpaulin sheet
Carabineers and clips
Several lengths of rope
Block and tackle
Raft Building: For non-diving teams.
The team will build a raft from the material supplied and use it to achieve an objective specified by Mission Possible.
Safety: There will be a safety person or a safety diver with the teams at all times.
Purpose: To decipher the message to get the information required to carry out the Jungle task. This exercise will be in two stages:
First stage: Use the clue and key to decipher the first message.
Second Stage: Find the specified information around the location and determine the actions for the following day.
Purpose: To use the information they have discovered to achieve their objectives in the jungle whilst looking out for traps etc.
This is a moderate physical challenge that develops team activity, awareness and use of wits:
Safety: All team members will be dressed appropriately and prepared for trekking through the local jungle. The distance between objectives will be no more than a half mile. There will be a local guide with a radio to guide them if dangerously off course, and in case of accidents. There will be a back up safety team with a medical kit close by and in radio contact in case it is needed. Full Medivac services will be available if needed.
Tools:
Map
Compass where necessary
Handheld radios or cell phones
